Valentines Photo Shoot

valentines-heart

It is February (thank God, January is my least favorite month) and some of you may be thinking of Valentines day. Do you celebrate it? My husband and I don’t really but for our kids it is a big deal.

This year I thought it would be fun to do a Valentines photo shoot. So I was super glad when Emily took time out of her week to come over on Friday to take pictures. I love how they turned out.

My sweet mother-in-law had send us a Valentines package with matching blouses for the girls, so I asked them to join us.

What My 3 Year Old is Wearing this Late Winter/Early Spring

I have been working on this series for the last two weeks. I always have so much fun doing this. Especially with this cutie pie, who still lets me dress her like a doll, and who has the relaxed temperament you need for photo shoots. I hope you love it as much as I do…

Here we go:

1. Outfit number 1

outfit no 1.jpg

Blouse: thrifted but originally from the Gap

Pants: Old Navy

Unicorn: from her friend

2. Outfit number 2

outfit no 2.jpgDress: the Gap

Tights: Stride Rite

Black top: hand me down from the older sisters

Monchichi: bought in Germany but available on Amazon

3. Outfit number 3

outfit no 3.jpgBlouse: H&M, hand me down from bigger sister

Pants: the Gap

4. Outfit number 4. Here is what happens when daddy gets involved. Nobody gets her exited and laughing like her dad (well other than maybe her 9 year old brother).

outfit no 4.jpgDress: thrifted, Carters

Tights: Stride Rite

White Top: the Gap

Winnie the Pooh Teddy Bear: from a dear friend of mine who is no longer with us

I should have a couple more outfits soon. Here are my posts from last year: Spring 1 and Spring 2, and Fall . You’ll notice that we are getting as much mileage out of the yellow jeans as we can.

Have a great day,

Sofija

Iglo & Indi Winter 2014

Iglo and Indi is a children’s clothing company from Reykjavik, Iceland. Their clothes range from newborn to 12 years. The following collection is for this fall and winter. Take a look.

Their clothes are designed for comfort and to mix and match. Some pieces are gender neutral, which is great for my crew of 4 girls and 2 boys. I can totally picture my 7 year old in the dress on top.

Have a lovely day,

Sofija

Kidscase Fall 2013

I recently found out about the children’s clothing company Kidscase. They are from Amsterdam and strive to use organic materials and pay fair wages. Take a look.

Their cozy knits seem perfect for this exceptionally cold winter. As always I appreciate when designers combine design and comfort.

Flannery O’Kafka for Young Soles

Friends,

I’m a huge fan of Flannery O’Kafka and her latest work for the British shoe company Young Soles just added to my enthusiasm. Take a look.

I love the Barber Shop location! And I love when her children model for a shoot (her youngest in the first picture, and her son in the third and last picture).

These well made leather shoes resonate with me. Germans are convinced that well made shoes are essential to a child’s development, and they are willing to pay money for them. My mom has sent me high quality shoes for most of my children when they were toddlers: flexible, durable, and made with breathable leather. I really appreciated that especially since I never had the money to buy good shoes.

Have a lovely day,

Sofija

You can find a post I did on the photographer last year here.

Gabriel et Valentin 2014

The French company Gabriel and Valentin completely wowed me with their photo shoot. The beautiful beach setting is so serene, set in white and grey tones…

Preparing for New Year’s Eve!

Tutu-du-Monde-spring-2014-9Friends,

How was your Christmas? Was it what you hoped for, or where there a few surprises? I was dreading mine a little bit, as it was our first year celebrating Christmas without our oldest son. His aunt and uncle graciously flew him to California to spend Christmas with my husband’s family. It wasn’t easy letting him go. But I am glad he has the opportunity. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be (though I missed him), largely because I was distracted with visitors. Dear friends we know from my husband’s time in grad school spontaneously showed up on Christmas Eve with all the trimmings for an awesome late lunch and early dinner. I love when that happens! Christmas day was pretty uneventful, which in our house is a good thing. On Saturday we took the kids sledding. In my book it doesn’t get much more Christmassy than that. Never mind that one of our children fell face down in the snow on the first run. Thank God she is tough and we still had a great time. All in all I call that a good Christmas break. How about you? What traditions make it more complete for you?

Now on to the New Year. Any plans? We still are working out some of the details, but it looks like we will be having a party at our house. We haven’t had one in a few years. Growing up in Germany New Years was a BIG deal (sort of like the 4th of July here). It was hard adjusting  to the fact that in this country it might or might not be a big deal, and that many people seem content to go to bed at 10.Over the years as we have added kids to our family big parties were less and less doable for us. Needless to say I am really looking forward to having a party again. It’s my Birthday as well so it makes it extra special.

But before I have some shopping to do…

Preparing for New Year’s Eve!

Christmas Photo Shoot

Here is our 2013 Christmas photo shoot. It was very spontaneous, yet I am happy how it turned out. On Saturday we woke up to a new batch of snow. Emily was available to take pictures, so we decided to do it an hour later. The first one is so sweet. Tasha really wasn’t sure about this shoot; and she was cold when I took her jacket off. So she snuggled up against me to stay warm.

My vision for this shoot was to have the kids walking in the snow, pretending they are delivering presents.kids walking

I didn’t really plan for these two crazies to take off with the wheelbarrow. Somehow Shane decided to push the wheelbarrow and Ella jumped in and the whole thing turned into a wild ride. I love when a shoot brings out the kid’s personalities. ella n shane i-29S8GKv wheelbarrow tasha tasha holding sign

It was Emily’s idea to have the kids stand in one line pretty much at the same spot we took pictures last year. I love the brightness and colors of this picture. burton kids christmas 2013Lastly a fun silly picture.
