Fall Outfits for Kids

Hi,

I’m eager to share a new to me children’s line from Belgium: Bellerose.

What intrigues me about this line is that the outfits are fun, mismatched, and slightly too small. In other words, that is exactly what I have in my kid’s closets. These outfits give me new ideas to work with what we already own. Take a look:

I like how they pair yellow with green or red. You can’t go wrong with toggle coats and Scandinavian sweaters. How about one of the boys wearing sweats? Some of my children have an aversion to jeans, so this makes total sense to me.

How about you, what inspires you for your wardrobe?

Homeschooling Meets Design

Hi there,

Here is a perfect blend of homeschooling and design. If you read the Pioneer Woman’s blog, this will be old news to you. Ree, a mom who home-schools, and lives on a ranch in Oklahoma, needed help with a room makeover for her two teenage daughters. Bob and Courtney Novogratz, a design couple from New York, came to the rescue. I would have never put them together but I love what they came up with.

Here are two pictures before: An attic room with orange carpet.

And after:

Wow, suspending beds. I Like the blend of rustic and color. I would have never picked striped carpet tile, but they work really well here.

I like the tassel blankets.

Look at this long desk, a homeschoolers dream. Lots of space for all their crafts, too.

Knitting and sowing made hip.

What do you think? I’m hoping if I blog long enough maybe I will get a Novogratz makeover someday….

Have a lovely day!

Back to School Outifits- Mini Boden

Hi,

today I have some ideas for children’s back to school outifits by Mini Boden USA. I like them as an inspiration because their style is so fun, cool, colorful, and very British.

Take a look:

I have a thing for toggle coats, stripes, and flower prints. Perfect!

Have you gotten your school shopping done? Do you get one outfit or a whole wardrobe? I buy for my two oldest, cause they grow like weeds (last year my 14 old outgrew his jeans three times). But for the other 4 I have hand me downs. Love those boxes from the cousins!!

First Day Of School

Hi,

thanks for stopping by. This blog is such a great outlet for me, and it is even better when I can share it with you.

Are you exited about school starting? I am. Though I’m not sending my kids off to school, cause they are right here with me. I am exited about getting  back into a new routine. I like to dress nice for the first day of school, make it special. Here is my inspiration for my back to school outfit:

How about you, do you have a first day of school outfit in mind? If you are not teaching, how about a favorite fall outfit?

German School Supplies

Friends,

it is almost August and school is on my mind big time. Everywhere you shop you are bombarded with school supplies. Personally I am going to wait until the day when you can buy tax free, but during my recent visit to Germany they had school supplies available at a deep discount. So I went to town and bought some items I can’t get here. Take a look:

German kids keep all their writing utensils neatly organized in these. Everything has its place: the ruler, the markers, pencil sharpener, etc. You can buy markers individually as you run out of them.

Kids write their schedule on the white paper.

After second grade children write with these ink pens exclusively. Getting used to these takes some practice but is sure makes your handwriting look better.

The water colors from Pelikan are my favorite. The colors are so vibrant and they come with a white paste that lets you mix your own colors in the white spaces on top. Of course you can replace single colors. 🙂 And you wonder why Germans are so exact and organized….

How about you, are you exited about the new school year or is it coming way too fast? When do you do all your supply shopping?

More Work Spaces

Here are some more ideas how to integrate your work spaces with your decorating style. The 4 top ones are simple, affordable, yet stylish. All you need is a table. Add a couple of chairs. Add some fun pictures to give it character, and you have a great looking workspace. If you like shopping at garage sales, Craigslist, or consignment stores, you can easily do this under $100. The third picture shows what a difference a painted chair can make.

The 4 bottom ones are great solutions for small spaces.

Have a great weekend! I’ll be back on Monday.

Art Supply Organization

Hello,

summer is the perfect time for art projects on those hot afternoons when you can’t go outside. I have 4 girls who produce a tremendous amount of artwork on any given day. I didn’t know where to put them anymore so I thought the bathroom would be a good place:

But how do organize all those markers, crayons, scissors, water colors, paper, etc.? Here are some ideas:

The top 4 are from the Container Store. The last two I found on Pinterest. Don’t you wish you had a whole closet for your crafts? We have  a small Ikea children’s wardrobe for our school books and craft supplies. It has worked well in the past but it is starting to get a little crowded. How about you, have you found the perfect organizing solution for you crafts?

They make organization look so easy

I typically organize my school stuff in the summer. I box up the kid’s school work, organize their closet and pull out books they need for the coming year. However,  I’m not an organized person. It is really hard for me to keep my house uncluttered. That is probably why I like the Container Store so much. They have so many options in lots of colors. They make you think it could actually be fun to organize your house!

How about you? Are you like me or is cleaning your closets your favorite thing in the world?

Having Fun While You Cook

Hello Friends,

Are you ready to face a new week of cooking ,cleaning, laundry, etc.? I don’t know about you but I swing back and forth between wanting to cook a gourmet meal (not that I am able to),  and wanting to just stuff my kid’s faces and call it good.  Cooking can be so rewarding, but it also can be so tedious. Buying a blue Le Creuset pan has helped spice it up a little. Must be the blue color that makes me happy.

How about adding some colorful spoons? Wouldn’t it be so much more fun to cook with these? The right ones are weighted, so the counter doesn’t get messy. Genius!

Happy Cooking!

I’m going on vacation!!

Summer is here!! And for the first time in 12 years (!) I am actually going on a 2 week vacation to Europe (I’m going to pretend my last trip to freezing Germany in January never happened).
A traveler needs a suitcase. I stumbled upon the Container Store’s new line of suitcases. Whatever happened to boring, black, and heavy?? These are so fun. I ended up buying the 360 degree Ricardo (last picture) in grey from Costco, cause they are cheaper and I share with my men, who won’t go for polka dot or orange. Though the orange would have been my pick. Have a look, which one is your favorite?
