Dressed for the Holidays

Friends,

It’s one week till Christmas! Are you ready? My kids are uber exited. Everyday new packages arrive in the mail, mostly from their grandparents.

I thought I’ll share some outfits we will be wearing on Christmas or over the holidays. My friend Emily did this photo shoot with us a couple of weeks ago. I posted some of those works of art  here.

For a photo shoot I try to see what we own already and buy as little as possible. I only bought Ella’s dress, cape, and hair pin,  and Esther’s dress and shoes recently. Everything else we either bought previously, got as hand-me-downs from our stylish cousins, or we thrifted. My jacket and Tasha’s red shoes were thrifted for example.

First up is Ella. Her dress and cape are from the Gap. Her shoes are from the Children’s place, tights are hand-me-downs. Her hair pin is from a local hobby store.

Next is Shane. The shirt is from H&M, jeans are from Old Navy. Pistol is from Cracker Barrel.

Next up is Finn. Finn always wears the same clothes so it is very likely he will wear this outfit from now until summer, unless he manages to grow out of it again. Top is from the Gap and pants are Levis.

Lucy is wearing all hand me downs except for her shoes and hair pin. The dress is from Gymboree, and the blouse from Ralph Lauren. The hair pin from Hobby Lobby, and the shoes from the Children’s Place.

Natasha is wearing pants from Carters, white top from Old Navy, and a tunic from Tea. The shoes are thrifted.

I’m wearing Levi’s skinnys (never thought I would be brave enough), top from Anthropologie, jacket from Talbot, boots from Merrel. I bought the buffalo leather bag decades ago in Frankfurt. This is the first pair of boots I have bought (other than snow or hiking boots). I bought rain boots to justify the purchase in case I didn’t wear them enough. Well, I wear them all the time. They dress up every outfit.

I will be posting Christmas pictures soon. I’m amazed how they turned out thanks to Emily. All pictures were taken behind our house.

Little Red Riding Hood

Friends,

how was your weekend? Ours was packed with a Christmas play and a photo shoot. I have been planning the photo shoot  for a while and I can’t wait to share some picture with you today and the next two weeks. Thanks to Emily from Lonely Mountain Photography they turned out like I hoped to.

Here are some pictures of my 6 year old Ella. Ever since I found the red cape I wanted to do a Little Red Riding Hood shoot with her. Take a look.

On the Train

Hi there,

Milk, a French children’s magazine, did this shoot on a train to Versailles. Not sure if this is a public train. If so, it would be a classy ride for sure.

I like how this shoot doesn’t take itself too serious. See the girl yawning in the last picture? If I had my pick I would dress my girls in the golden dress (second picture) and black and white coat (fourth picture). Oh and I would put bow ties on my boys…if they ever let me.

I like how she used toys as props to make the shoot look natural. I like the moccasins on the girl in the first picture. I bought a pair from Nartjee for my 4 year old and they make every outfit fun. I wouldn’t mind owning that star dress on the last picture for the holidays.

If you are into children’s photography be sure to check out her website. She has a unique style. Kind of dreamy, fairy tale like.

Have a great day,

Home-schooling in Style

Maria Carr was featured in Better Homes and Garden’s this month. She lives on a ranch, runs a business and a blog, is a great photographer, and educates her 5 children at home. This lady proves that you can have it all- at least you can try. Be inspired!

I like how she combines brown, white, and red. Her home looks so serene.

Maria took all these pictures in her home. She decorates a lot with french linens and antiques. You can buy her them here.

Friends, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and families! We will have international students over tomorrow and friends from church the next day. I better get cleaning….

See you back here next week,

Sofija

Friends,

I had to share these pictures with you, also by Misha Lulu. They speak to me on so many levels. Growing up in Germany fairy tales were a big part of my life. The images beautifully blend the sense of wonder, playfulness, and discovery. Enjoy!

I think I told you that I bought a red cape for my 6 year old? It will be perfect for creating the Little Red Riding Hood look. My favorite is the Little Red Riding Hood t-shirt in the first and second picture.

Have a lovely day,

Sofija

Hello,

After featuring a number of European clothing companies I’m exited to introduce you to an American based company named Misha Lulu. This fashion brand was started by Karen Moran Salazar, a native from El Salvador. She is inspired by her faith, Latin culture, motherhood, and European Travels. I think faith should always inspire us to be creative.

Take a look:

I really like the red shoes, the leggins with the knee patches, and the overall school look. What do you think?

Have a lovely day,

My Favorite Things to Wear this Fall

Hi there,

How was your Halloween? Did you go all out with costumes? My neighbor sowed Fellowship of the Ring costumes for all 6 of them! That is pretty hard to top. This got my husband thinking he might get a fuzzy monster costume for next year. He would be even cuter than he already is…

Here are some outfit ideas for the fall. I like the red pants everybody seems to be wearing these days. The outfit below is from Madwell.

Next is another outfit from Madwell. I really like their photo shoot in Amsterdam. I wouldn’t mind owning one of those polka dot blouses.

The next outfit might be perfect as it is getting colder.Love the boots and the long sweater. Image found here.

Ah, the grey tweed blazer found here.

Sherlock Holmes cape. How can you go wrong with that? I bought my 6 year old a red one from the Gap; wish they had one my size…Image found here.

For the holidays a pretty collar. You can buy them at Anthropologie and add them to any outfit. This one was found here.

How about you, what is your favorite style item this fall?

Have a lovely day!

Caramel Baby and Child

Hi there,

Drooling over kid’s fashion is a happy diversion for me. It has been ever since I found out about Oilily many many (I won’t tell you how many) years ago. I couldn’t believe how creative and stylish kid’s clothes could be. Recently through Pinterest I found bloggers who inspire daily with new children’s collections. Smudgetikka is one of them. The pictures below are from her blog.

How about that adorable baby with the gnome hat? My favorite is the girl (3rd picture from top) with the folklore shirt. I have been watching too many Sherlock series lately, so the boy’s hat hits the spot. So does the girl wearing green tweed sporting a Miss Marple look.

Caramel Baby and Child is a British company (of course) that blends a timeless tailored look with  quirky, modern touches.

You can find other children’s fashion I have been pinning here.

Have a great day!

Annika

Hello,

How is your week going? Mine is going well. With prospects of going to the Balloon Fiesta and celebrating our anniversary this week, it couldn’t be much better.

I thought I was done posting on children’s fashion for a while. But then I stumbled upon Annika. Best find on Pinterest last week for sure. I had some difficulty tracking down the source. As far as I can tell it is a South Korean company with a Swedish background. Not sure what I like more about it, the clothes, the props, or the fact that it takes me back to my own childhood.

Is this cute or what? The head scarves, the knee high socks, bloomers, and pea coat jackets. And the colors…I wouldn’t mind hanging out in this place all day.

While I keep drooling over these pictures you can find more on Pinterest or on their website e-annika.com.

Stay tuned for pictures from the Balloon Fiesta (if the weather holds up).
