Lincoln, New Mexico

One of my favorite field trips we have done in the past is visiting the little town of Lincoln, New Mexico.

Lincoln is a small ghost town in southeast  New Mexico, with one main street, and lots of little houses. The whole town is like a walk through museum, nobody lives there. There is a court house and prison, where Billy the Kid escaped from pretty spectacularly. There is the town store, a church, a doctor’s office, a hotel, little gift shops and places to eat for the tourists. It is really fun to walk through and see what life was like back in the 1800’s. What people could buy at the store, what a typical kitchen looked like, the sizes of beds… The doctor’s office’s instruments looked pretty scary.

Here is the my son Shane (about 2 years old at the time, how cute is he!!) in the court house.

Tea Collection Early Spring 2014

I noticed I have been featuring a lot of European labels in the last six months. I’d like to remedy that since there are a lot of good American labels out there. Tea is one brand I tend to buy a lot. Take a look at their Moroccan spring collection.

Fun fact: for everyone of their collection Tea company travels to a new country to get inspired. For this one they captured the vibrant colors, textures, and patterns of Marrakech. The blue dress in the last picture and the zigzag leggings are my favorite. As a mom of  a daughter  with sensory issues I am so grateful for comfortable, loose fitting clothing options.

You can find a really fun photo shoot Emily and I did with our kids all dressed in Tea here and here.

Tea Collection Early Spring 2014

Early Spring

It’s snowing and freezing in most of the country… Meanwhile in New Mexico it is a sunny 60F and fire season started early.

What are your plans for the weekend? Tomorrow three of my girls will be spending the day with their American Heritage Troop. Sunday our 9 year old son is having a Birthday, nothing big, just cake and ice cream. With six kids we decided to let them have a bigger party every other year. It’s more doable for us that way. On the off years they still have cake and get to choose a restaurant for dinner. Short and sweet. With six kids it always feels like a big party…
Have a great weekend,

The Gift of Life

Yesterday would have been my dear friend’s 45th Birthday. This is the second year she has missed it. Two years of not seeing her two daughters grow into young women. As I sometimes grumble about getting older, I have to remind myself what a gift each year, each day is. Another day I get to be a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a friend. Hold my children, nurse them to health, teach them, cook for them. Just living the mundane, day in day out, is the biggest gift I can give them.

Simply being alive, however imperfectly,  brings more comfort to others than you can imagine. Each day we live we assure others that all is well and good.

The picture is from Ella’s 7th Birthday. It was the prettiest cake picture I could find.

Oilily Spring/Summer 2014

If you have been following this blog for a while you’ll know that I am a huge fan of Oilily, the quirky Dutch company. Their photo shoots never disappoint. Check out their spring/summer 2014 line.

The red checkered cardigan is my favorite. And I am always a sucker for striped socks. The dutch clogs remind me of our first trip to Europe in 2000. Back then we only had one child (kind of hard to imagine). We dragged the poor kid all over Europe; he was barely two. We were in Holland for my friend’s wedding; and we had bought Finn a pair of the famous clogs. Back then he was really into shoes and he was so thrilled to clack around on cobble stone on a quiet Sunday morning. You could hear the him from far away. Funny the reaction we got from the locals. It was either “oh, how cute is he!”, or “look at these silly Americans!”.

You guys have a great day,

Sofija
